E-waste or Electronic Waste is electronics that have been discarded or are not in use. Electronic items such as refrigerators, televisions, washing machines and microwaves, computers, or cell phones, can all be considered electronic waste. These e-waste contain toxic elements that pose a risk to the environment and human health. Many of these products also contain precious and recoverable materials that can be used or recycled in new electronic devices.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) states that if one million of these phones were recycled instead, it would be possible to recover more than 20,000 pounds of copper, 550 pounds of silver, 20 lbs of palladium and 50 lbs of gold.
